The Five Redemptive Mysteries

Revealing the Triune nature of the mystery of life and death

These mysteries are intended for contemplative purposes only; they have not been approved nor sanctioned by the Holy Roman Catholic Church nor its affiliates or any other religious organizations

FIRST The Blood Offering of His Birth, Life, and Death:

Jesus offers Himself as the One, Holy, & True Blood Offering to God. In this mystery, Jesus is the sacrificial goat of the sin offering from Leviticus 16 : 9,  who is slaughtered for the corporal sins of the people. He willingly goes forth as Priest, Holy Victim, & Offeror of His Body, Spirit, Soul, Strength, and Mind for the expiation of sins.  This mystery began at His birth, through His circumcision, throughout the pain He endured within the exigencies of being human, to His suffering and death.

SECOND His Atoning Spiritual Death:

Jesus takes every sin upon Him and endures spiritual separation from God. He bears the entire weight of every sin committed or to be committed and suffers an unbearable separation from Our Holy God. This spiritual death is likely the most unbearable part of His sufferings because He can no longer experience the love of His God.

THIRD His Atoning Physical Death:

Jesus says, “It is finished,” after completing the blood & spiritual sacrifices. Knowing his physical death was near and knowing God was no longer with Him, Jesus succumbs to a completely terrifying death suffering not only the loss of the body, but of His spirit and soul. He commits Everything to our God despite the separation.  He puts His hope in God despite the grievous circumstances.

FOURTH His Atoning Descent into Hell:

Jesus’ soul descends into hell enduring the abomination of damnation on our behalf. As the final offering, Jesus' soul is consumed by the pains of separation from God (the final burnt offering). He releases all those captive souls that were eager for the completion of the Father's Salvation Plan.

FIFTH Completion of the Redemption Plan through His Resurrection:

Jesus conquers sin & death through all He has endured and has opened the way to Heaven. The Salvation Plan was put into place with the original sin of disobedience and required the sacrifices shown in the Old Testament to make us a holy people, culminating with the perfect Lamb sacrifice once and for all. The tombs of the saints and holy people released their dead as a symbol of what Jesus initiated by this last part of His death (descent into Hell and freeing of the “prisoners.”)
